It was actually of a brown rug, which was what my mother’s old house was adorned with before they thought it would look better without the rug… and it didn’t.
But my real first memory, that I remember thinking about afterwards, was when I lit the toilet paper in the bathroom trash can on fire. Nothing bad happened because the fire was in a metal waste basket, and that’s why I thought it’d be safe. My older sister snuffed it out. I think I retained a lesson from then that I should never light toilet paper on fire… but also the lesson of keeping a five-year old child unattended.
